Michael Roberson’s Message
As a business attorney I have spent the past several years representing Nevadans. From small, start-up businesses to local doctors and dentists, to well-known and longstanding Nevada developers, I have been fortunate to work side-by-side with these inspiring job-creators and to call them my dear friends.
Many of my clients have been small “mom & pop” family-owned businesses which, I believe, are the backbone of the Nevada economy. I have been privileged over the years to play a small part in helping these folks to get their businesses off the ground. As a result, they hired employees off the unemployment lines and contributed to the economic development of this great state.
But during the past two years I have seen first hand how these same folks have suffered through the worst economy in many decades. I have seen on a daily basis how they sacrifice to keep their livelihoods afloat; to make the difficult decision to lay off workers; and, ultimately, in many cases, to shut their doors. And I have watched as our state government made things worse by piling on new job-killing tax increases and bureaucratic hurdles.
Therefore, it is with the encouragement of my family and these close friends that I have decided to run for public office. It is no longer good enough for me to wait for someone else to step up to the plate and fight for the people of Nevada. I can no longer stand on the sidelines and watch the politicians in Carson City pass reckless tax and spending policies. Their billion dollars in new taxes only serves to make it more difficult for small businesses, health care professionals, teachers, police officers, and other everyday Nevadans to survive. Nevada’s economy can recover, but only when the citizens send the tax and spenders home for good. Vote them out in 2010. Vote for a conservative Republican. Vote for Michael Roberson, Nevada State Senate, District 5.
